Job Description: This position is located in Sterilization, College of Dentistry and has the responsibility for cleaning dental instruments and the preparation of them for sterilization. The incumbent operates and maintains a variety of sterilization equipment.

  • Dispensing clean instruments to dental students and departments, using computer program Axium and the INFO-DOT process. Collecting, tracking, and processing dirty instruments according to sterilization protocol.
  • Disinfecting and sterilizing dental instruments for all UFCD dental students and the UFCD dental clinics. Replacing broken or missing instruments for UFCD dental students.
  • Recording incoming and outgoing instruments from students and departments.
  • Oiling and maintaining instruments.
  • Checking bur blocks for burs that need to be replaced because of wear or because the bur has been discarded. Requires critical attention to detail.
  • Maintaining office supplies inventory.
  • Labeling and scanning with the Axium program.
  • In-service training (updates, new sterilization techniques, and computer classes).

Other related duties as assigned.

Expected Salary: $16.00 per hour; commensurate with education and experience

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications
  • Dental Assistant certification or equivalent training.
  • Ability to prepare, sterilize, and maintain dental instruments and equipment.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and perform work assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.

CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
