Job Description:

The University of Florida's School of Architecture (UFSoA) in the College of Design, Construction and Planning invites applications for one faculty position emphasizing architectural design and instruction, at the Assistant Instructional Professor level. This is a 12-month appointment and will be based on the main campus in Gainesville, Florida.

In response to recent growth, UFSoA is looking for an instructional faculty with extensive pedagogical interests prepared to thrive within a highly competitive R1 research university. Successful candidates will be invested within the studio-based design culture and curriculum at the UFSoA, will contribute to academic and professional service, and may pursue design-centered scholarship within a limited framework.

The University of Florida's School of Architecture (UFSoA)

UFSoA, celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2025, is known for its rigorous and interdisciplinary design studio curriculum and culture, which includes numerous international opportunities and academic concentrations. The program has approximately 425 undergraduate and 200 Master's and PhD students. There are three off-campus programs:
City Lab-Orlando, City Lab-Jacksonville, and the Vicenza Institute of Architecture in Vicenza, Italy. International studies play an important role in the SoA curriculum with almost 75% of the student body participating in study abroad programs in Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

The 32 full-time faculty of the School of Architecture produce research, creative works, and design scholarship through independent initiatives, centers, and institutes. The School of Architecture offers graduate concentrations and certificates in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Architecture, Computational Design, Public Interest Design (PID), Acoustics, Themed Environments Integration (TEI), Sustainability, Healthcare Design Integration (HDI), Building Performance, and Architectural Design Pedagogy.

SoA offers the following degree programs:
Bachelor of Design in Architecture, Master of Architecture (NAAB Accredited), Master of Science in Architectural Studies, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture that includes interdisciplinary coursework in design, construction and planning. UFSoA is one of five active, interdisciplinary units in the College of Design, Construction and Planning that contributes to solving built environment challenges in Florida, across the US, and the world.

The successful candidate will join a highly motivated faculty at a top ranked public university abundant with cutting-edge research, scholarship, and teaching. This rich environment provides ample opportunity for collaboration. SoA is committed to supporting instructional faculty through active teaching mentorship, funding graduate assistants to support teaching, and potential support for creative and/or scholarly work.

The College of Design, Construction and Planning (DCP)

The College of Design, Construction and Planning (DCP) is one of the few colleges in the nation that houses design, construction and planning under one college. With programs in architecture, construction management, interior design, landscape architecture and urban planning, historic preservation, and sustainability and the built environment, students are exposed to an interdisciplinary reflection of the world around them. UFSoA faculty collaborate in research and teaching with faculty in each of the college's other units, and across the university, reflecting the college's dedication to interdisciplinary collaboration.

F. Ramos Collaboratory will bring together diverse disciplines under one roof, fostering greater collaboration and innovation. The state-of-the-art facility will feature a centralized research hub for all DCP research centers, specialized laboratories focused on robotics, acoustics, virtual reality (VR), and lighting, as well as a large multipurpose hall and seminar rooms designed for lectures and symposiums. Additional highlights include creative collision spaces that encourage interdisciplinary interaction, and a digital modeling and fabrication lab.

The area is known for its nature parks, bike trails, sporting events, museums, mild winters, and warm summers.
