Job Description:
The Department of Astronomy at the University of Florida, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a position at the rank of Lecturer to begin August 16th, 2026. This is a full time nine-month, non-tenure-accruing position, renewable on a yearly basis. For full consideration, applications must be received by Dec. 17th, 2025. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Physics, or a closely related field and demonstrate teaching experience and a commitment to teaching excellence.
The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a full benefits package. The Department of Astronomy is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their teaching and service, to the excellence of the academic community at the University of Florida.
The successful candidate will teach a combination of introductory and upper-level courses, with a teaching load of three courses in the Fall and three courses in the Spring semester. An important goal of this position will be to support and expand experiential learning in the department curriculum at all levels. Examples of experiential learning could include, but are not limited to, telescope site visits, direct research participation, and/or development of internship programs.
The University of Florida has facilities for hands-on learning, including the Campus Teaching Observatory, Rosemary Hill Observatory, instrumentation laboratories, and the Hi Per Gator computer cluster, among others. The successful applicant will also gain access to UF's world-class research facilities and telescopes (), including the 10.4-m Gran Telescopio Canarias in Spain, the Dharma survey telescope in Arizona, and the MINERVA Australis exoplanet RV array. UF is home to Hi Per Gator , one of the most powerful high-performance computers at a US public university (https://). The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in and contribute to UF's newly founded Astraeus Space Institute, which supports space-based research across many disciplines.
UF is the state's oldest, largest, and most comprehensive land grant university with an enrollment of over 50,000. UF is located in Gainesville, a city of approximately 150,000 residents in North-Central Florida, 50 miles from the Gulf, and 67 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, and within a 2-hour drive to large metropolitan areas (Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville).
