Job Description:

The University of Florida invites applications for an instructional faculty member in general linguistics at the rank of Lecturer, beginning August 16, 2026. This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-accruing position.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development and teaching of general linguistics courses which may include introductory linguistics, phonology, syntax, morphology, and other general linguistics courses at the graduate and undergraduate level. It may also include developing new or existing courses to be offered in person or online. The successful candidate will be expected to teach three courses per semester, work with the undergraduate coordinator and other faculty to further strengthen and grow the program in linguistics, and provide service to the department, the university, and the profession.

Expected Salary:

Expected starting salary between $62,000 to $68,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. Compensation includes a full benefits package.

Preferred:

* Demonstrated success teaching general linguistics topics such as introductory linguistics, phonology, syntax, and morphology at multiple levels.

* Evidence of effective curriculum development and assessment for both in person and online modalities.

* Proven ability to manage a three course per semester load while maintaining high quality instruction and timely student support.

* Experience working collaboratively with program leadership and faculty to improve student outcomes and enrollment.

* Record of meaningful service and engagement with the broader linguistics community.
