Job Description:

The University of Florida School of Architecture invites applicants for one or more tenure-track appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek candidates with expertise in architectural design: innovative designers, dedicated educators, and strong researchers who are prepared to thrive within a highly-competitive R1 research university. We are specifically interested in candidates with demonstrated expertise in studio design instruction. Secondary areas of expertise may include full-scale fabrication, design/build practices, digital design and visualization, housing, practice, and/or other areas of funded research and peer-reviewed publication.

In this tenure-accruing position successful candidates are expected to achieve distinction within at least two of three areas: research/scholarship, teaching, and service. Candidates for tenure must demonstrate excellence through publications, grants, successful students, and contributions to the university and profession. This is a full-time, nine (9)-month per year position. The successful candidate will be based on our main campus in Gainesville, Florida and should anticipate a start date of Fall 2026.

Responsibilities:

* Conduct original research and creative practice that contributes to the advancement of architectural design.

* Teach undergraduate and/or graduate design studios, as well as seminars, labs, or integrated building technology coursework.

* Supervise, advise, and mentor graduate M.Arch, M.S.A.S., and Ph.D. candidates completing independent theses, projects-in-lieu-of-thesis (PILOTs), and doctoral dissertations.

* Contribute to curriculum development, service, and governance within the school and university.

University of Florida School of Architecture

The UF School of Architecture (UF SoA; (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) is known for its rigorous and interdisciplinary design studio curriculum and culture, including numerous international opportunities and academic concentrations. Celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2025, the UF SoA is one of five active, interdisciplinary units in the College of Design, Construction and Planning that contributes to addressing challenges in the built environment of Florida, the US, and the world.

The successful candidate will join a highly-motivated faculty at a top-ranked public university, abundant with cutting-edge research, scholarship, and teaching. The SoA is committed to supporting faculty through mentorship, research and travel funding, assistance with grant writing and publication, and funding for graduate assistants to support teaching and research.

The School of Architecture offers the following degree programs:
Bachelor of Design in Architecture, Master of Architecture (NAAB accredited professional degree; three tracks), Master of Science in Architectural Studies (M.S.A.S.), and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The SoA has approximately 425 undergraduate and 200 Master's and PhD students. The program is based on the main campus of the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. There are also three off-campus programs:
City Lab-Orlando;
City Lab-Jacksonville; and the Vicenza Institute of Architecture in Vicenza, Italy. International studies play an important role in the SoA curriculum, with almost 75% of the student body participating in study abroad programs in Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

The 32 full-time faculty of the School of Architecture produce research, creative works, and design scholarship through independent initiatives, centers, and institutes. The School of Architecture offers graduate concentrations and certificates aligned with areas of faculty research, including in

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Design, Public Interest Design (PID), Acoustics, Sustainable Architecture and Design, Themed Environments Integration (TEI), Healthcare Design Integration (HDI), Building Performance, and Architectural Design Pedagogy.
