The Opportunity:

The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications seeks multiple candidates for the position of Instructional Designer II to work in the CJC Distance Education Department.

The Instructional Designer II partners with faculty, subject matter experts, and team members to plan, design, and develop high-quality learning experiences that meet or exceed Quality Matters standards for post-secondary learners. This role applies instructional design principles, adult learning theories, learning science, and accessibility standards to produce courses and instructional materials that promote student success in online or hybrid modalities. The Instructional Designer II also supports faculty adoption of effective instructional practices, best practices in online education and learning management, and digital tools through consultation, training, and ongoing collaboration.

Quality Matters (QM) certification and familiarity with QM standards are essential for this role. Our online programs rely on the QM framework to ensure academic rigor, course alignment, accessibility, and learner success. The Instructional Designer II must be able to apply QM principles within course development, faculty guidance, and continuous improvement processes. Ongoing professional development in QM is expected after hire to maintain currency with evolving standards and to support the sustained quality and integrity of our online offerings.
