Position: Temporary Steps to College Teacher

Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is accepting applications for a Temporary Steps to College Teacher. The Steps to College Teacher will teach economics, civics, financial literacy, current events, math, English, or ESOL for the Steps to College summer program.

Responsibilities

* Teach one 16-day course in any of the following areas: economics, civics, financial literacy, current events, English, mathematics, or ESOL and employ classroom management and disciplinary skills as necessary.

* Create effective, engaging, hands-on lesson plans, assignments, and activities for an intensive 16-day course, addressing all required state P-12 standards as set by the Georgia Department of Education for the content area and grade level being taught.

* Keep detailed records of all assignments, grades, final assessments, and attendance; submit required reports and documents to program Coordinator in a timely manner.

* Supervise students outside of classroom activities, including as they arrive and depart via bus each day, as they eat lunch each day, as they take snack breaks or restroom breaks on a daily basis and on program-related field trips taken during the course of the program.

* Participate in all orientation meetings and program meetings as determined by the S2C Director, which might require meeting prior to the start of or after the end of the S2C program. Check and respond to UNG emails daily.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

* Content area knowledge

* Excellent oral and written communication skills

* Skill in incorporating technology in teaching in the classroom, and experience working with English Learners.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree required; preferably in Education, Applied Linguistics, or TESL.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working with youth in out-of-school academic programs and/or facilitating out-of-school programming is preferred.
