Job Description:

The Junior Staff (Camp Counselors) play a key role in supporting the overall operations and experience of the Summer Pre-Medical Professions Program, working closely with high school students exploring future careers in medicine. This position offers hands‑on experience in leadership, mentoring, student engagement, and program facilitation within an academic setting, while contributing to the success of a dynamic summer program.

About This Role:

Supervision

  • Provide daily oversight of camp participants, ensuring safety and compliance with University standards.
  • Monitor and guide student behavior while fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Help lead group activities, encouraging full student engagement.
  • Serve as liaison between students and senior staff regarding issues, questions, or concerns.

Administrative

  • Assist with the setup and organization of program materials, including creating handouts, distributing schedules, and preparing resources for activities.
  • Track student attendance, participation, and progress throughout the program.
  • Support the collection and maintenance of student feedback, evaluations, and other necessary documentation.
  • Complete daily administrative tasks such as filing, organizing program supplies, and maintaining an orderly workspace.

Leadership

  • Lead small‑group or individual activities, facilitating discussions, workshops, and hands‑on learning.
  • Encourage and maintain enthusiasm and engagement throughout the program.
  • Demonstrate initiative in organizing and supporting program activities.
  • Collaborate with senior staff to ensure smooth coordination and execution of the program schedule.
  • Help students develop confidence, interpersonal skills, and professional behaviors.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor for program participants, offering guidance on academic and pre‑medical professional development.

Facilitation

  • Assist in arranging and participating in experiential learning opportunities such as shadowing, simulations, and skill stations.
  • Encourage active participation and facilitate discussions tied to program learning outcomes.
  • Act as a liaison between students and facilitators, helping to ensure clear communication and positive group dynamics.
  • Provide informal academic support and answer questions related to curriculum and medical career pathways.
  • Foster a supportive, encouraging environment by creating opportunities for students to ask questions and receive advice on their aspirations and challenges.

$15.00 per hour

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and three years of relevant experience.

Preferred:
  • Have a strong interest in medicine, pre‑medical studies, or related health professions.
  • Have experience in leadership, mentorship, or educational support.
  • Possess strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Have the ability to work effectively with diverse students, staff, and guest speakers.
  • Have the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
