At Gainesville Empowerment Zone Family Learning Center, we are committed to nurturing the whole child and supporting families through high-quality early childhood education. We believe in growing greatness in every child, and we are seeking an experienced Assistant Teacher to join our active 2-year-old classroom.
Job Summary:
The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in managing a large, high-energy classroom of 2-year-olds. This role requires a confident, engaged educator who can actively support learning, behavior guidance, and daily routines while maintaining a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
This is not an entry-level position, we are seeking someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced classroom and can step in and support immediately.
Responsibilities- Actively engage with children throughout the day through play, conversation, reading, and structured activities
- Support implementation of lesson plans using Creative Curriculum, Beyond Paper
- Assist with classroom routines including meals, transitions, diapering/toileting, and rest time
- Maintain a safe, organized, and well-managed classroom environment
- Support positive behavior guidance and social-emotional development
- Supervise children closely during indoor and outdoor activities
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher to ensure smooth daily operations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the classroom
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with families and team members
- Document daily activities and interactions as required
- Proven experience working in a large, active 2-year-old classroom (required)
- DCF 40-hour certification completed (required)
- All DCF required certifications current and up to date
- Strong understanding of toddler development and age-appropriate practices
- Ability to manage a fast-paced, high-energy classroom environment
- Reliable, consistent, and team-oriented
- First aid/CPR certified
- Warm, patient, and engaging with children
- Able to stay calm and responsive in a busy classroom
- Proactive and able to anticipate classroom needs
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
