The University of Florida College of Medicine Office of Graduate Education invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Dean for Postdoctoral Affairs
. This is a 0.20 FTE administrative appointment reporting directly to the Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Education. The anticipated start date is on or after July 1, 2026.

About This Role

The Assistant Dean for Postdoctoral Affairs will serve as a key member of the Office of Graduate Education leadership team. The successful candidate will assist in developing, coordinating, and implementing a strategic vision that supports the College's goals related to postdoctoral affairs and enhances the academic and professional experience of postdoctoral scholars as well as coordinating advertising and recruiting of postdocs to UF COM.

Strategic

Planning and Initiatives
  • Provide oversight and support for the postdoctoral experience within the College of Medicine, ensuring scholars have access to professional development, research opportunities, and career advancement resources.
  • Assist the Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Education in developing and managing new initiatives and long‑term roadmaps.
  • Partner with departments, centers, and institutes to design and implement new programs and initiatives supporting postdoctoral scholars.
Postdoctoral Support and Development
  • Develop and lead programs that strengthen postdoctoral training, including mentoring programs, teaching opportunities, and career pathways in academia and industry.
  • Advocate for postdoctoral scholars across the College and University, addressing needs related to work‑life balance, mental health, and career trajectories.
  • Coordinate workshops, seminars, and community‑building events that enrich the postdoctoral experience.
  • Collaborate with partners across UF to ensure policies and practices align with national best practices and the unique needs of postdoctoral scholars.
Research and Fellowship Funding
  • Support postdoctoral scholars in identifying and securing fellowships, grants, and sponsored research opportunities.
  • Work with the Office of Research to promote funding opportunities and guide scholars in developing competitive proposals.
  • Oversee internal fellowship programs and financial awards for postdoctoral scholars.
Recruiting and Reporting
  • Coordinate recruitment and retention efforts for postdoctoral scholars by coordinating with relevant units and partners.
  • Establish and manage oversight committees and reporting structures related to postdoctoral affairs.
  • Establish a centralized database to track postdoctoral applicants as well as past and present postdocs to support training grant applications and renewals.
  • Present progress, outcomes, and recommendations to the Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Education and other stakeholders.
Operational Leadership
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff within the Office of Graduate Education.
  • Ensure smooth and effective operations related to postdoctoral affairs.
  • Serve as a backup point of contact for the Office of Graduate Education in the Senior Associate Dean's absence.
  • Chair or co‑chair the Postdoctoral Affairs Committee and serve as liaison to the Academic Programs Coordinator Group.
