Assistant or Associate Professor Space Biology / Astrobiology

Responsibilities
  • Teach a 3‑credit course in space life sciences for undergraduate and graduate students each year.
  • Train and mentor PhD students and supervise undergraduate and graduate research.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of graduate curriculum and assist with curriculum development for new BS, MS, and PhD programs in space sciences.
  • Conduct research in space biology, space biomanufacturing, and/or astrobiology, with a particular interest in extremophile research.
  • Secure grant and contract funding, with an emphasis on federal competitive grant support.
  • Engage in extension activities related to the program area and participate in the CALS Honors Program, distance education, and international education as appropriate.
  • Carry out scholarly activities related to teaching, including advising students, publishing teaching‑related scholarship, producing learning tools, and participating in professional development.
Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in the life sciences with a strong background in space biology and/or astrobiology.
  • Demonstrated experience in successful research, publication of peer‑reviewed papers as first author, and proficient verbal and written communication.
  • Experience or proven ability in securing extramural funding.
  • Commitment to the mission of the land‑grant system and to UF core values.
  • Supportive of UF’s Equal Employment Opportunity policies; eligibility to work in the U.S. required.
  • Preferred:
    Postdoctoral experience and a strong record of successful grant writing.
