This is a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure-accruing position that will be 100% teaching, available in the School of Natural Resources and Environment (SNRE), College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS), and Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), at the University of Florida's main campus in Gainesville. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. The salary is competitive and comes with a full benefits package, with initial funding for two years and a possible extension pending funding availability.
We seek candidates with a record of excellence in teaching, mentoring, and preparing students for professional success. SNRE emphasizes instruction that connects interdisciplinary science fundamentals with modern practice, professional problem solving, and workplace readiness. The successful candidate will have strong intellectual and communication skills, familiarity with higher education pedagogy, and demonstrate genuine investment in student success.
The successful candidate will serve as instructor for a general education course in Environmental Science (multiple sections) and required and/or elective undergraduate courses in Environmental Science and Interdisciplinary Ecology, develop new instructional materials and course content as needed by the unit and per the applicant's expertise, mentor students, participate in curriculum development and assessment activities, and collaborate with faculty and staff to strengthen the undergraduate educational experience.
Background Information:
SNRE offers university-wide, interdisciplinary degree programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels that prepare students to understand the complex issues related to the environment and socio-economic stability. Through its interdisciplinary educational programs, SNRE will provide tomorrow's scientists, natural resource managers, and societal leaders with the training (acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies) needed to effectively address the enormous environmental challenges facing future society.
SNRE is comprised of more than 350 affiliated faculty members, 140 graduate students, and 200 undergraduate majors.
The University of Florida is a Land-Grant, Sea-Grant, and Space-Grant institution, encompassing virtually all academic and professional disciplines, with an enrollment of more than 56,000 students. UF is a member of The Association of American Universities. The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences includes the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, the Florida Cooperative Extension Service, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Florida Sea Grant program, and encompasses 16 on-campus academic departments and schools, 12 Research and Educational Centers (REC) located throughout the state, 6 Research sites/demonstration units administered by RECs or academic departments, and Florida Cooperative Extension Service offices in all 67 counties (counties operate and maintain).
SNRE is an interdisciplinary unit housed in CALS and supported by affiliate faculty from several other colleges on campus. UF/IFAS employs nearly 4,500 people, including approximately 990 salaried faculty and 1,400 permanent support personnel, located in Gainesville and throughout the state. IFAS, one of the nation's largest agricultural and natural resources research and education organizations, is administered by a Vice President and four deans: the Dean of CALS, the Dean for Extension and Director of the Florida Cooperative Extension Service, the Dean for Research and Director of the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, and the Dean for the College of Veterinary Medicine.
