This 9‑month tenure‑accruing position is 30% teaching and 70% research. The incumbent will teach a 3‑credit course in space life sciences to undergraduate and graduate students, mentor PhD candidates, and contribute to graduate curriculum development. The faculty member will also lead research in space biology, space biomanufacturing, and/or astrobiology, seek competitive grant funding, and engage in extension activities related to the program area.
Responsibilities- Teach a 3‑credit course in space life sciences annually.
- Train, advise, and supervise undergraduate and graduate research.
- Develop curriculum for new BS, MS, and PhD programs in space sciences.
- Conduct scholarship in space biology, space biomanufacturing, or astrobiology.
- Seek and secure extramural grant funding and manage research budgets.
- Participate in extension activities and contribute to the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences mission.
- Doctorate in a life science discipline with a strong background in space biology and/or astrobiology.
- Demonstrated experience in research, teaching, and grant procurement.
- Commitment to the Land‑Grant mission and the University of Florida core values.
- Published peer‑reviewed papers as first author.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with postdoctoral research and grant writing is preferred.
Commensurate with education and experience.
Employment ConditionsPosition begins January 2027 and will be filled as soon as an acceptable applicant is identified. Compensation is commensurate with the education, experience, and qualifications of the selected applicant.
