Responsibilities
  • Develop a forage breeding program that designs, tests, and releases forage species and cultivars addressing biotic and abiotic stresses, seasonal production distribution, biological dinitrogen fixation, and seed production for Florida and the Southeast U.S.
  • Implement laboratory and field activities utilizing novel breeding technologies.
  • Actively seek and secure external funding to support research, breeding programs, and outreach.
  • Design and deliver Extension programs that enhance producer adoption of new and existing forage cultivars while promoting best management practices that protect natural resources.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including the Florida Cattlemen's Association and the UF cropping systems/agronomy/integrated crop-livestock systems program.
  • Participate actively in undergraduate and graduate education by chairing and serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and dissertation projects, and publishing research results with students.
  • Teach courses and seminars as needed, and engage in professional development activities related to teaching and mentoring.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in Plant Breeding or a closely related discipline, with an emphasis on field-based crop improvement, plant breeding, and cultivar development.
  • Demonstrated expertise in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding.
  • Commitment to the mission of the Land-Grant system and to University of Florida core values.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Field‑based plant breeding research experience, including securing extramural funding.
  • Mentoring of graduate students.
  • Postdoctoral or industry experience in novel methods for cultivar development.
Benefits & Compensation

Expected Salary:
Commensurate with experience and education.

Employment in a 12‑month, tenure‑accruing position (70% research, 30% Extension). Tenure will accrue in the Agronomy Department. The position is available at the North Florida Research and Education Center – Marianna.
