Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Recruit, train, supervise, coach, mentor and evaluate student and other part-time staff (approximately 50 staff on an annual basis).
- Plan and facilitate regular staff meetings and training sessions for each assigned area including awareness and compliance with all University policies and procedures.
- Assist with the development of program training manuals and materials including safety and risk management practices to meet national standards and University policy.
- In coordination with unit area team and the Talent Management Unit create and implement a comprehensive student development program.
- Communicate job responsibilities and expectations for student employees.
- Plan, develop, schedule, and implement assigned programming, including trip logistics, assessing location-specific risk management, prepping equipment, and briefing student staff and participants as needed.
- Compile qualitative and quantitative data from post-trip evaluations; provide and maintain reports used in assessment of programmatic quality and goals.
- Promote operating policies and procedures for use in assigned programs.
- Enforce University and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
- In tandem with Assistant Director, collaborate with other units within Rec Sports and on campus to develop new and relevant programs.
- Promote programs by coordinating with marketing & outreach to advertise programs.
- Work in tandem with Assistant Director to develop the operational budgets for assigned programs.
- Monitor budgets throughout the year and assist with quarterly reporting.
- Maintain proper inventory records.
- Serve as an active member on committees, work teams, and other global efforts within the Department of Recreational Sports.
- Prepare and manage bi-weekly payroll and wage schedules and reports.
- Ensure Risk Management & Safety protocol are utilized appropriately within all assigned responsibilities.
- Provide feedback to supervisor regarding the safety and/or condition of programs, equipment, and facilities; conduct daily observations and/or use said equipment and facilities; immediately document and address all safety concerns; and operate a state vehicle as needed.
Expected Salary: $44,000 - $50,000
Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Master’s Degree; two years of experience in outdoor recreation; understanding of outdoor recreation operations in a campus recreation setting; effective communication skills; ability to work with minimal supervision, to think laterally, to undertake initiatives, to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment and to supervise people; instructor trainings, and lift a minimum of 45 pounds.
- Background in Recreation, Outdoor Leadership, or related field.
- Wilderness First Responder certification.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Designated essential employee and may be required to work during campus closures.
