Role of Dean of the College of Medicine As the chief academic and administrative officer, the Dean of the College of Medicine must be a seasoned professional with a distinguished record of visionary leadership, scholarly accomplishments and demonstrated excellence in academic health and clinical administration. The Dean of Medicine reports to the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs (EVPHA), and the successful execution of this role requires a dynamic, visionary leader with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in the college's trifold mission;
research, education and clinical practice. This role requires an ability to collaborate and build successful internal and external partnerships. The dean establishes the strategic vision and leads the college in pursuit of its goals to provide a high-quality environment for teaching, learning, research and clinical service.
Duties, responsibilities and goals include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee all undergraduate, graduate, residency and postgraduate education programs in the medical schools in Gainesville and Jacksonville, and continuing education.
- Responsible for all activities related to the accreditation of all educational programs, including LCME, ACGME and ACCME reviews.
- Support and continue to expand the research enterprise, emphasizing interdisciplinary science, translational efforts and attracting and retaining key COM research faculty.
- Work alongside UF Health leadership to continue to grow a large qua ternary care health system commensurate with the tripartite mission of excellence in clinical care, teaching and research.
- Conduct, in collaboration with departmental chairs, the regular evaluation of faculty as teachers, scholars and clinicians. Ensure mentoring and development of the faculty, including their advancement through the tenure and promotion processes.
- Oversee all activities related to departmental and extra-departmental budgets, all office, educational and research space, faculty evaluations, appointments, promotions, compliance and discipline.
- Oversee COM faculty in their clinical roles, including oversight of all revenues and expenditures of the Gainesville Faculty Practice Plan.
- Foster and develop interdisciplinary collaborations to enhance education, research and practice within the COM, as well as across the five other health colleges and with the colleges of the university as a whole.
- Work closely with the COM development officer, UF Health Advancement and UF Advancement to lead the college's efforts in the university's major capital campaign.
- Work with the university President, EVPHA, UF Health CEO and regional presidents on relevant legislative policy issues.
- Foster a strong engagement with the UF and UF Health community to serve as good and supportive partners.

- Strategic thinking, with the ability to contribute at the senior administrative level and lead other leaders
- Communication and Collaboration Superior communication skills and the ability to connect with a variety of audiences; clear and effective written and oral presentation; and the experience, ability and inclination to be an effective, outgoing spokesperson for the university Ability to foster collaborative activities locally, regionally, nationally and internationally Ability to maintain effective liaisons with alumni, state and national medical professional organizations, and other stakeholders
- Experience with advancement and fundraising that promote the missions of the college
- Experience, Knowledge and Education Doctor of Medicine or equivalent and a distinguished record of visionary leadership, research/scholarly accomplishments and excellence in academic administration Experience with merging efforts and managing resources between traditional academic medical with community-based practices Significant administrative experience at an accredited medical school Strong understanding of the complex financial issues facing medical schools, including the need to align resources with expenditures.
