Position SummaryThe Director or Coordinator will design, develop, and oversee parish programs in Christian formation, religious education, and sacramental preparation for families, children, and youth. The role influences the faith community’s maturation through instruction and formation in the Christian life. Compensation reflects education and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities- Develop goals, objectives, and strategies for faith‑formation programs.
- Design, develop, and coordinate individual catechetical programs meeting the needs of parish segments.
- Maintain a close working relationship with the Pastor, pastoral staff, and parish volunteers.
- Manage the total Faith Formation Program for children and their parents.
- Monitor the program budget and adjust allocations as needed.
- Communicate with participants, parents, and the parish to keep them informed of development efforts.
- Evaluate the program against goals and objectives, making necessary adjustments based on feedback and professional development.
- Design, develop, and direct the Faith Formation Program for grades K‑12:
- Recruit and supervise catechists.
- Maintain student and catechist records.
- Provide basic training and ongoing formation of all catechists.
- Evaluate programs, personnel, facilities, and curricula.
- Provide opportunities for Christian service for students.
- Coordinate sacraments, including preparation for parents and children.
- Establish operating procedures for management of the program:
- Order textbooks.
- Schedule classes.
- Make room assignments.
- Obtain and maintain resources used in the Faith Formation Program.
- Adhere to diocesan policies and pursue appropriate training.
- Maintain Diocesan Catechetical Certification.
- Attend Diocesan Catechetical Leader Gatherings.
- Participate in opportunities for spiritual and educational growth.
- Network with other catechetical leaders to improve programs.
- Assist with coordination and execution of the St. Augustine Area Confirmation Retreat.
- Possesses an M.A. degree in theology or religious studies.
- 3–5 years of progressive engagement with a parish, overseeing faith‑formation programming.
- FLSA classification:
Salary, Exempt. - Experience in a faith‑formation program (certificate preferred).
- Oversees family faith‑formation programming only.
- Possesses a B.A. in theology or religious studies, or is a graduate of the Ministry Formation Program.
- Experience in a faith‑formation program; willingness to complete certification considered.
- FLSA classification:
Hourly Non‑Exempt. - Oversees family faith‑formation programming only.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; effectively present information and respond to inquiries from diverse stakeholders.
Mathematical SkillsBasic arithmetic, calculation of rates and percentages, and interpretation of quantitative data.
Reasoning AbilityDefine problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and interpret technical instructions.
Physical DemandsRegular standing, walking, sitting, use of hands, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, speaking, and hearing; lifting 20 pounds; requires adequate vision.
Working ConditionsModerate noise level; requires flexibility for evenings and weekends; possible travel and personal vehicle use to diocesan locations.
