Job Description
The Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law at the University of Florida, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-accruing position beginning August 16, 2027, at the rank of Assistant Professor with specialization in population health broadly defined. We seek scholars whose research examines the social, economic, political, environmental, and/or demographic factors that shape population health outcomes and health inequalities.
Applicants’ research programs may focus on areas including, but not limited to, health disparities and inequities; aging and health; family and health; mental health; disability; reproductive health; health behaviors; environmental influences on health; social epidemiology; or the consequences of social stratification for health and well-being. Researchers employing all types of methodological approaches are encouraged to apply.
We seek applicants whose records show commitment to rigorous scholarship with the promise of external funding, as well as excellence in teaching. The ability to contribute significantly to graduate education and the mentoring of graduate students is highly desirable.
The Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law is a dynamic department with over 350 undergraduate Sociology majors and 46 Sociology graduate students. The Department has two undergraduate programs, sociology and criminology, both offered via in-person and online courses. We also offer minors in Sociology of Social Justice & Policy and Environmental Justice & Policy. Faculty conduct research in diverse areas, including criminology and criminal justice;
psychology and law; families and gender; health, aging, and the life course; environment and resources; and other areas. Our commitment to methodological rigor and innovation is reflected by our investment in the department’s International Ethnography Lab and the Computational Sociology and Criminology Lab. Many faculty are affiliated with other academic programs at UF, including the School of Natural Resources and the Environment, the Center for Latin American Studies, the Center for European Studies, the Department of Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies, and the Health Science Center.
