Posting Summary

Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Energy Supply Maintenance Planner to support safe, reliable, and efficient power plant operations. This position is responsible for planning, estimating, coordinating, and documenting maintenance work for complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and control systems across steam turbine, combustion turbine, and combined‑cycle generating units.

The Maintenance Planner develops detailed work packages, identifies labor, materials, parts, tools, and equipment needs, and supports critical‑path scheduling for planned maintenance activities. This role works closely with craft personnel, supervisors, operations, procurement, plant engineers, project engineers, and managers to ensure maintenance work is well‑coordinated, cost‑effective, and completed in accordance with safety standards, technical requirements, and GRU procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and document job and job‑task work packages for preventive maintenance programs.
  • Interpret original equipment manufacturer prints, manuals, and illustrated parts breakdowns.
  • Plan, schedule, and facilitate maintenance‑related meetings.
  • Maintain equipment and vendor files; create component‑level files; determine material needs and specifications.
  • Coordinate purchases through blanket, routine, expedited, and emergency purchase orders; follow up with vendors and manage leftover parts.
  • Prepare documents to generate purchase requisitions for non‑stock material purchases; research stock items and provide manufacturer part information in the inventory management system.
  • Communicate effectively with plant engineers, project engineers, managers, and maintenance and operations personnel.
  • Maintain outage and inspection manuals, OEM service bulletins, steam turbine maintenance history, and safety valve inspection manuals.
  • Observe and adhere to proper lockout/tagout procedures, policies, and practices.
Education

Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma with additional engineering/technical coursework completed.

Experience

Six (6) years in power plant maintenance, operations, or engineering of steam generating units and related equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of principles and practices pertaining to maintenance management of various types of power plant mechanical, electrical, electronic, and/or instrumentation and controls systems and equipment.
  • Professional, customer‑focused approach when communicating technical and operational information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of computer software and operating systems including Windows, MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook), and CMMS software applications used in the plant environment.
  • Knowledge of power plant equipment systems including steam turbine units, combustion turbine units, and combined‑cycle units.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and methods in the operation of major power plant equipment.
  • Knowledge of power plant shop equipment and craft personnel job skills.
  • Knowledge of GRU purchasing/procurement policies.
  • Knowledge in estimating appropriate work scope, craft personnel, materials, parts, and other requirements for planned work packages.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules, regulations, and precautions.
  • Ability to work from mechanical piping, isometric drawings, electrical and instrumentation and control schematic diagrams, construction-related blueprints, and AutoCAD drawings.
  • Ability to interpret technical bulletins, manufacturers’ maintenance/repair instructions, and information relating to power plant systems and equipment.
  • Ability to understand power plant problems and provide cost‑effective solutions.
  • Ability to develop and understand critical‑path schedules for planned maintenance work.
  • Ability to maintain maintenance history records and electronic databases; prepare reports.
  • Ability to read, understand, and comply with Material Safety Data Sheets.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to guide and train subordinate personnel in the performance of their duties.
  • Ability to work effectively with coworkers and the general public.
Preferred Certifications

Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP), and/or Project Management Professional (PMP).
