Overview
The Trust is seeking an engineer for a wide range of conservation projects, including wetland restoration, erosion control, animal waste management, and agricultural water management. The individual should like to travel, work outside, and have excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills. The ideal candidate would be a hands-on people person with a common-sense approach to day-to-day problem-solving. The position is located in Gainesville, FL.
A Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required. Preferred specialization is Agricultural, Biological, Civil, Environmental, or a similar field. The Trust will work closely with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), so prior experience working with NRCS is preferred.
- Most of the work will include supervising project construction and collecting project data, including topographic surveys, for restoration plans.
- Assisting with preliminary planning and plans of operation, reviewing project designs and specifications, and conducting project as-builts.
- Work with NRCS on related projects; collaboration with NRCS is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required. Preferred specialization:
Agricultural, Biological, Civil, Environmental, or a similar field. - Candidates should have experience in:
- Topographic surveys, including the use of total stations, GPS-RTK and network rovers, and laser levels
- ArcGIS and analysis applications
- AutoCAD, Carlson Civil and/or Micro Station
- Wetland Restoration design and implementation
- Agricultural water management design and implementation
- Agricultural conservation design and implementation
- Experience with hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software is preferred but not required, including Streamwise (ICPR), HEC-RAS/HEC-HMS/TR-55, Geo-RAS, Hydraflow, Hydro
CAD, or similar software - Experience with USDA NRCS conservation programs, state conservation practices, standards and specifications is preferred but not required
- Experience working with state and federal agencies, private landowners, earthwork contractors, and construction inspectors is preferred but not required
- Salary will be based on experience and qualifications.
