Position: Advanced Corrosion Laboratory Technician-- NARDC5426067

This is an advanced-level position involving technician work in a structural materials testing facility. General responsibilities include some or all of the following: routinely performing advanced chemical and corrosion tests procedures with minimal supervision; receiving and preparing samples for testing; developing and maintaining the data acquisition systems regarding to materials assessment; developing Standard Operating Procedures for various test methods; entering test data into the appropriate reporting software program or database;

analyzing and extracting test data; preparing detailed reports and correspondence; and communicating with District and Contractor personnel.

The ideal candidate will have previous laboratory work experience, knowledge of laboratory safety procedures, the ability to work in a team environment, skilled in the use of computers and Microsoft Office applications, be familiar with data acquisition systems, and have the ability to perform duties with a high level of accuracy. This position will be working in the Laboratory in the Structural Materials Section.

Specific duties include:

  • Conduct laboratory tests and prepare samples to identify the chemical properties of concrete, coatings, sealants, admixtures, and other structural material products. Specific tests include, but are not limited to the Rapid Migration Test, Rapid Chloride Permeability Test, Accelerated Chloride Penetration Test, and other advanced tests.
  • Evaluate data for the purpose of determining material properties related to corrosion resistance.
  • Maintain automated data acquisition systems and low voltage control systems for corrosion assessment.
  • Produce technical reports and review research project documents.
  • Maintain and develop specifications, test methods, and standard laboratory procedures.
  • Occasional travel may be required for field inspections and material sampling.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification:

High School diploma or equivalent, Ability to lift 50 pounds, Ability to perform laboratory testing, Ability to operate a computer for word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
