Responsibilities

Project and Program Management: Provide engineering support to Facilities Services departments regarding asset performance, system upgrades, and infrastructure reliability. Assist in planning, scheduling, and executing system testing for reliability improvements. Working directly with the Facilities Services team and other department representatives, initiate the planning process by analyzing project requirements as it relates to architectural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing items. Support small/minor projects and deferred capital renewal projects by defining scope, creating work plans, and budget.

Evaluate the appropriateness of project requirements, develop scope narratives, and recommend the most appropriate and cost-effective solution for completing the work, including meeting UF Standards. Provide engineering expertise to support Operations, Utilities, and PD&C. In consultation with others, recruit, interview and select vendors with appropriate skills for the project activities. Manage a facility inspection program, in partnership with FS Operations, to identify facility deficiencies and to assign time frames and cost estimates for deficiency corrections.

Develop and maintain a five (5) year capital plan for both buildings and utilities infrastructure.

Design & Construction Oversight: Perform engineering and design reviews of consultant and contractor work. Provide internal design reviews and construction inspections across capital and maintenance projects to ensure technical accuracy and standards compliance. Work closely with university stakeholders, external consultants, and contractors, to provide technical input into new construction, refurbishment, engineering, and capital renewal projects. Provide engineering guidance on systems design, technical specifications, lifecycle costings, and cost-in-use to ensure effective resource utilization and sustainability.

Actively support the UF's sustainability goals by promoting energy-efficient and low-carbon engineering solutions in all projects. Manage all activities via the University's Computer-Aided Facilities Management systems, ensuring work is accurately scheduled, executed, and tracked. Coordinate closely with PD&C Design Teams on projects to ensure quality project outcomes.

Design Standards & Policy Development: Review, revise, and develop infrastructure and facility standards, including architectural, Utility, M/E/P, structural, and site design guidelines. Ensure uniformity and consistency in standards across Facilities Services departments. Develop documentation and procedures to ensure compliance with university requirements, industry best practices, and regulatory guidelines. Assists with identifying and developing possible process improvements for the Capital Improvements Program.

Team Leadership and Performance Management: Lead a multidisciplinary team including engineers and quality assurance personnel. Manage recruitment, development, scheduling, and performance reviews. Promote a culture of high standards, accountability, and continuous improvement. Works on developing continuous education requirements, in-field training needs, and supports overall program development for training of assigned staff. Works with various university departments and industry regulators on safety plans and documentation of safe work practices.

Position completes other duties as assigned in support of the department initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Must possess a Class E Driver's License.
  • Background Check and PK Yonge Background are Required.
  • PE License Preferred.

Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Responds to emergencies as required.

Compensation

Expected Salary:
Commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably in mechanical, electrical or civil engineering.
  • Professional Engineer License in the State of Florida.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office, MS Project, and PDF mark-up software.
  • Familiarity with Revit, Auto Cad, and BIM.
