Comfort Temp Company was founded in 1985, and CT Mechanical supports commercial construction and mechanical projects through HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal, estimating, project management, and field execution support.
Our work depends on accurate planning before the first crew arrives on site. The estimating team plays a critical role in helping the company evaluate opportunities, understand project scope, protect margins, and build proposals that can be executed successfully by operations and field teams.
Job SummaryThe Mechanical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, detailed, and timely estimates for commercial mechanical construction opportunities. This role reviews plans, specifications, addenda, and bid documents to determine project scope, quantify labor and material needs, solicit vendor and subcontractor pricing, and prepare complete bid packages for review.
This position requires strong technical understanding of commercial mechanical systems, disciplined document review, Excel proficiency, clear communication, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines at the same time. The right candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, comfortable working with project managers and operations leaders, and capable of identifying scope gaps, exclusions, risks, and clarifications before a bid is submitted.
Key Responsibilities Estimating and Bid Preparation- Review commercial construction plans, specifications, addenda, schedules, and bid documents to understand full mechanical scope.
- Prepare detailed estimates for HVAC, plumbing, piping, equipment, materials, labor, subcontractor scope, and related project costs.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and develop cost build-ups that support accurate and competitive bids.
- Identify scope gaps, conflicts, exclusions, clarifications, alternates, allowances, and potential risk items before bid submission.
- Prepare bid forms, proposal support documents, cost summaries, and estimate review materials for leadership review.
- Maintain accurate estimate files, supporting documentation, vendor quotes, subcontractor proposals, and bid assumptions.
- Solicit pricing from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors based on project scope and bid requirements.
- Review, compare, and qualify vendor and subcontractor quotes to confirm coverage, exclusions, and alignment with project documents.
- Build and maintain productive working relationships with trade partners, vendors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Communicate bid deadlines, scope expectations, clarifications, and document updates to external partners as needed.
- Work closely with estimating leadership, project managers, operations leaders, and field leadership to support bid strategy and project planning.
- Participate in estimate reviews, bid strategy discussions, turnover meetings, and project handoff conversations.
- Communicate estimate assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, risks, and opportunities clearly to the team.
- Support change order pricing, budget reviews, value engineering conversations, and post-bid follow-up when needed.
- Contribute to process improvements, estimate templates, tracking tools, and standard estimating workflows.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Experience reading and interpreting commercial construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Working knowledge of commercial mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, equipment, materials, and construction sequencing.
