Role Overview

As a Mortgage Closing Specialist, you will be an integral part of the mortgage loan process and provide borrowers with an exceptional closing experience, meet regulatory deadlines, and maintain communication with all parties.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Calculate final closing costs and balance Closing Disclosures with the Closing Agent, provide accurate and compliant Closing Disclosure to the borrower, and ensure the disclosure is received and signed within TRID timing guidelines.
  • Routinely communicate effectively with all parties and respond to borrower inquiries.
  • Coordinate closing schedules with borrowers, lenders, title companies, and attorneys.
  • Evaluate loan data to ensure all closing conditions are met. Prepare final loan documents in the credit union’s Loan Origination Software (Meridian Link) for borrower signatures and ensure the loan adheres to all federal, state, and investor guidelines.
  • Review loan files for completeness and accuracy, prepare closing instructions for the closing agent, and coordinate funding (wire transfers) for timely delivery of funds.
  • Audit executed closing packages before funding authorization, identify and resolve issues or discrepancies, and authorize funding approval. File and store all post-closing documents correctly in the credit union’s document storage system.
  • Cross-train and assist mortgage processing.
  • Work within and across department lines to ensure an industry-leading member experience.
  • Stay abreast of mortgage trends and maintain comprehensive knowledge of the credit union’s mortgage policies and products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Experience:

    Two years of similar or related experience in mortgage lending.
  • Education:

    High School Diploma or GED.
  • Interpersonal

    Skills:

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, confidentiality and diplomacy, ability to influence both internal and external members, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Other

    Skills:

    Experience with Microsoft Office and other office equipment; familiarity with residential mortgage loan documentation and TRID;
    Docu Sign and Meridian Link Mortgage experience preferred but not required; electronic and physical file management.
