Position Summary
The Universal Banker serves as a full‑service, single point of contact in the branch for South State customers' financial needs. The position operates in the dual capacity of a teller and a full‑service relationship (FSR) representative and is responsible for contributing to the financial growth of the bank.
Essential Functions- Serve customers quickly, accurately, efficiently, and confidentially according to South State Bank Service Standards.
- Know and understand the bank’s products and services, including features, benefits, regulations, and pricing structure.
- Identify customer needs and opportunities by listening and making referrals as outlined in the position goals.
- Maintain neat and professional personal appearance in accordance with bank policy.
- Ensure compliance with banking regulations, including Regulation CC and the Bank Secrecy Act.
- Develop a strong understanding of customer‑facing technology and enroll customers in self‑service options.
- Follow all policies and procedures to minimize operational errors and maintain proper workflow.
- Follow branch security and audit procedures and maintain understanding of security device functions.
- Process transactions for savings, checking, and loan accounts.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area.
- Assist in guiding and training new tellers.
- Allow customers access to safe deposit boxes.
- Cash checks and process savings withdrawals within prescribed limits.
- Sell certified checks.
- Balance transactions daily.
- Service or balance ATMs as required.
- Utilize the branch capture system.
- Follow branch policies and procedures to minimize operational errors.
- Open new deposit accounts and manage services such as stop payments, wire transfers, and other maintenance functions within assigned limits.
- Explain policies and procedures to customers.
- Resolve customer problems and complaints with courtesy and discretion, directing difficult issues to appropriate resources.
- Make customer relationship opportunities through product knowledge and service excellence.
- Show sincere appreciation for each customer's time and business.
- Follow branch security and audit procedures.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of branch records, reports, and correspondence.
- One year of teller or cash‑handling experience and at least six months of customer relationship building or sales experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in Teller II and basic FSR job functions.
- Additional responsibilities may include vault responsibilities or backup vault responsibilities.
- Float to different offices in an area to accommodate staffing needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Cash handling, sales, or customer service experience; previous banking experience preferred.
- Good interpersonal, computer, and written communication skills; ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

- Banker Foundations.
- All assigned regulatory and compliance training.
- Acknowledgement of all policies through Docu Sign as required.
- Additional training may be required depending on experience.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and maintain a standing, walking, or seated position for the duration of a typical shift.
