Position

Purpose:

The Consumer Underwriter is primarily responsible for analyzing, evaluating, and decisioning consumer loan applications in accordance with established credit union policies, regulatory requirements, and risk tolerance. This role is responsible for maintaining sound credit quality while providing timely and accurate loan decisions that support the credit union’s lending objectives and a positive member experience.

Essential Functions:

• Reviews and evaluates consumer loan applications, including direct and indirect applications, to determine whether the borrower(s), loan structure, and proposed terms meet the credit union’s established underwriting and risk standards. Makes credit decisions within assigned lending authority and establishes appropriate terms and conditions for approved loans. Ensures all lending decisions and practices comply with applicable NCUA requirements and federal and state laws, regulations, and credit union policies.
• Funds indirect loan contracts in accordance with established procedures. Reviews indirect loan files and performs quality control to ensure contract terms, documentation, funding requirements, and other file components are complete and accurate prior to funding.
• Provides support to the Loan Processor with loan servicing functions, including ensuring liens and titles are properly perfected and recorded on all applicable collateralized property. Processes GAP, warranty, and collateral protection insurance as required. Reviews and maintains loan documentation to ensure files are complete, accurate, and compliant with established procedures, credit union policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
