Job Summary And Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible to for the operations of the Diet Office in the Food and Nutrition Services Department. Performs activities including but not limited to the following: processes and maintains patient diet orders, menus, and related nutrition information/records in a manual process and/or computerized system in accordance with facility requirements, works with patients and/or health care professionals to resolve tray service and/or food issues, maintains production tally information;

writes and modifies menus utilizing guidelines in the diet manual; adjust menus and snacks to provide patients’ food preferences and age‑specific needs; interview patients for their food preferences; work with patients and/or nursing staff to resolve tray service and/or food issues, is the primary phone liaison in the department.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES
  • Serves as a positive liaison between Food and Nutrition Services, patients, other hospital departments and the community.
  • Answers the telephone in a professional, courteous and pleasant manner, identifying department, self and with 'may I help you?'
  • Accurately obtains diet‑order related information from Meditech and always implements orders for new admissions, discharges, and diet or room changes.
  • Accurately completes and prints nourishment list for 10:00 – 3:00 and/or HS snacks; enters nourishment in Meditech for each patient as needed.
  • Accurately collects and tallies designated patient food items for next day. Accurately tallies last minute special items needed for each successive meal. Inform cooks of necessary food items.
  • Informs RD of consults in a timely manner.
  • Reports any patient having difficulty with meals or who may need diet counseling to the RD or Diet Tech.
