Summary

The Malcom Randall VA Healthcare System's Specialty Care Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic mid-level Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) Hematology/Oncology. Our ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards - as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program.

Duties

    This position will be filled as either a Physician Assistant (PA) or a Nurse Practitioner (NP)
  • This is determined by the selecting official

  • As a Licensed Independent Provider – the Physician Assistant practices autonomously and in coordination with health care professionals and other individuals
  • The incumbent provides a wide range of health care services – including the diagnosis and management of acute, chronic, and complex health problems

  • and counseling to individuals – families – groups and communities
  • Must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center
  • The Physician Assistant provides quality patient care in collaboration with other health care professionals
  • The incumbent will perform specific duties within his/her approved scope of practice
  • The Hematology/Oncology physician assistant is a position located in the Medical Specialties Service
  • The physician assistant reports directly to Section Chief of Hematology/Oncology
  • The position entails clinical and/or administrative responsibilities within Hematology/Oncology
  • Duties include but are not limited to: – Performs initial histories and physical examinations; provides ongoing outpatient and inpatient care for assigned patients as well as episodic patients; screens and triages outpatients to determine further needs of care; prescribes medications within defined scope of practice (including schedule II‑V controlled substances); writes orders and prescriptions; orders diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests and x-rays;

    carries out health promotion and disease prevention activities; orders consult notes, procedure notes, progress notes, consultation requests and administrative letters; which are written by the Physician Assistant and clearly VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package
  • Work Schedule:

    Monday-Friday 8am‑4:30pm (

    Note:

    Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor)
  • The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs)
