Job DescriptionThe University of Florida College of Medicine and UF Health seek a Chief Quality Officer (CQO) for the Greater Gainesville market. Reporting to the UF Health Senior Vice President and Regional President for Greater Gainesville, with a matrixed relationship to the System Chief Quality Officer, this senior physician leadership role (0.50 administrative FTE) offers the opportunity to shape and advance quality, patient safety, and patient experience across one of the nation's premier academic health systems.
The CQO serves as the senior physician leader responsible for advancing quality, safety, and performance across the UF Health Shands Gainesville flagship academic medical center and its surrounding regional network. This role provides strategic oversight of system-wide quality and safety initiatives and leads the Sebastian Ferraro Office of Clinical Quality and Patient Safety.
Working in close partnership with hospital executive leadership, physician leaders, department chairs, and College of Medicine leadership, the CQO will design and implement innovative, data-informed strategies that elevate care delivery across inpatient, ambulatory, and affiliated network settings. The CQO will champion a culture grounded in safety, transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement, ensuring that quality excellence remains central to UF Health's academic and clinical mission.
This is a highly visible executive leadership role at the intersection of academic medicine and complex healthcare operations. The CQO will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and the Board on quality and safety matters and will contribute to strengthening UF Health's regional and national reputation for clinical excellence.
In This Role, The Chief Quality Officer Will- Lead the Sebastian Ferraro Office of Clinical Quality and Patient Safety, providing executive oversight of personnel, programs, and quality infrastructure across the Greater Gainesville market.
- Drive and execute a comprehensive quality and patient experience strategy aligned with UF Health's strategic priorities and value-based performance goals.
- Partner with department chairs, Physician Directors of Quality (PDQs), division chiefs, nursing leadership, executive teams, and quality improvement science leaders (including QPSi) to advance measurable improvement in clinical outcomes across inpatient, ambulatory, and affiliated settings.
- Provide leadership and accountability for patient experience performance, working collaboratively with nursing and operational leaders to improve patient-centered outcomes and satisfaction metrics.
- Ensure organizational readiness and sustained compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and public reporting requirements.
- Strengthen and sustain a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and shared accountability across faculty, trainees, and staff.
- Integrate quality and patient safety initiatives into frontline clinical operations by actively engaging residents and fellows in improvement efforts, safety event review, and systems-based practice.
- Oversee quality measurement, performance analytics, and transparent reporting to executive leadership and governance bodies.
This is a 0.50 FTE Faculty Administrative role.
Required Qualifications- M.D. or D.O. degree and board certification in an appropriate clinical specialty.
- Comprehensive knowledge of evidence-based medicine and quality improvement methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience leading clinical quality, patient safety, or performance improvement initiatives within a healthcare environment.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply clinical quality and safety data to drive measurable improvement.
- Demonstrated experience fostering collaborative, accountable clinical environments aligned with patient-centered care.
- Prior experience in a physician leadership role (e.g., departmental, divisional, or hospital-based leadership).
