Position: Patient Access Specialist | Patient Access | Part time | Variable - 11:00 am -7:30 pm - Sat -Sun- Wed
Overview

Manages high-dollar outpatient service accounts requiring complex authorization, continuous payer monitoring, and coordination across multiple clinical areas. Oversees referral processing, registration, authorization/precertification, financial counseling, and point-of-service collections within Epic. Ensures accurate reimbursement by securing payer approvals, providing clinical information, and maintaining work queues and cash handling responsibilities. Serves as a key financial resource to operational teams, offering guidance for treatment planning and scheduling decisions.

Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities

* Manage high-dollar outpatient service accounts to ensure accurate and timely financial reimbursement.

* Handle services involving complex procedures that require initial authorization and ongoing monitoring for re-authorization, including Adult and Pediatric Infusion, High-Tech Radiology, Radiation Oncology, and Therapy services.

* Process referrals, complete registration, and secure authorization/pre-certification as required through completion of treatment.

* Perform Point-of-Service collections and posting within Epic; maintain and balance Epic cash drawer daily.

* Provide financial counseling, including referral to appropriate assistance resources; calculate patient financial responsibility and provide cost estimates.

* Monitor and maintain applicable Epic work queues to ensure timely resolution.

* Obtain approvals from third-party payers by supplying detailed clinical information and coordinating peer-to-peer reviews when necessary.

* Secure signatures on required regulatory documents.

* Serve as a Financial Division representative on intra-operational teams, offering financial insight to support treatment planning and rescheduling decisions.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

* High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree or related coursework preferred.

* Minimum of 1 year of experience as a financial specialist/counselor or 3 years of related experience.

* Strong working knowledge of medical and insurance industry terminology.

* Proven ability to multitask, adapt to changing priorities, and make timely, accurate decisions.

* Effective communication skills with healthcare professionals and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

* Proficient in relevant applications and capable of working within multiple computer systems.

* Exceptional verbal, written, and analytical communication skills.

* Adaptable, tactful, and able to work well under pressure, including during critical or unusual situations.

* Must demonstrate professionalism appropriate for a "first impression" role, including proper dress, attitude, and customer service.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation

* This position does not require operation of a vehicle for assigned business purposes.
