Department: - MD-PSYCHIATRY
Job DescriptionThe University of Florida College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, Division of Psychology, is hiring for its MHC/MFT Registered Intern Training Program. This program offers a unique opportunity for post-Master's degree counselors and therapists to earn patient-contact hours for State of Florida licensure. Trainees will be provided free supervision by a State of Florida Board-Approved Qualified Supervisor while engaging in direct patient contact to hone their skills in evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
The Division of Psychology also provides trainees opportunities to learn from industry-leading faculty, both directly, through daily attending psychologist relationships, as well as through group didactic education (and a friendly open-door policy).
Our clinic is where theory meets real-world treatment, offering an exciting opportunity for personal growth and the creation of a highly rewarding, and marketable, foundation for future licensed endeavors!
Trainees will be accepted at any time of year based on occupancy. They will complete program orientation, meet faculty and staff, and begin building a schedule to include 28 patient sessions per week. Your effort percentage will be considered 80% direct patient clinical contact, and 20% training in the form of administrative duties, co-therapy, didactics groups, and supervision.
Clinical activities will include the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of emotional and behavioral problems that interfere with individuals' functioning in the home, school, and community through outpatient psychotherapy, counseling, or behavior modification programs in individual, family, or group modalities. Conjoint and group therapeutic opportunities are available to those who desire to pursue them; this position is primarily individual therapeutic intervention and is performed via face-to-face or telehealth psychotherapy.
Trainees will be formally evaluated quarterly and have the opportunity to participate in open departmental training as well.
The department requests a one-year training commitment within the general clinic, with the potential to complete an optional second year of training. This offers options for engagement in departmental flagship programs specializing in Intensive OCD Clinic, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and/or Inpatient Psychotherapy. Patient contact and supervision hours accrued within this two-year timeframe will meet State of Florida licensing requirements (pending no extended leaves of absence).
