Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position is with the Alachua County Health Department Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and is a highly skilled supervisory professional position which requires an expert understanding of the Federal WIC & Nutrition Program and the use of the WIC FL-WiSE system.

The incumbent is expected to promote cooperation, courtesy, and teamwork in a diverse environment and as an employee of the Department of Health in Alachua County, represents the agency and its mission and values. The incumbent will maintain courteous and cooperative relationships with staff and the public, and adhere to all departmental policies and procedures, state and federal laws governing information, security, and privacy.

This position spends more than 50% of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees’ work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensure proper coverage, and complete timesheets.

This position supervises Health Support Specialist and Records Specialist positions, and reports directly to the WIC Program Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the department. This includes supervising work of direct reports and orienting them to general policies, programs and procedures. Advises staff on problems arising in the work setting. Ensures that proper procedures are followed. Evaluates employees by establishing criteria and responsibilities.

Communicates with employees both individually and in staff meetings. Motivates employees to improve the quality and quantity of work performed. Directs the workloads of employees to ensure maximum use of time and resources.

This position will also serve as one of the clinical leads, and will be responsible for analyzing current procedures, and identifying organization difficulties that hinder clinic flow. Apprises supervisor of trends and works with the team to develop procedural changes to correct identified difficulties. Implements said changes upon approval of the Senior Public Health Services Manager/WIC Program Manager. Track clinic productivity, flow, and errors.

Maintain reporting on error trends identified for training purposes. Provide corrective training on error trends. Work with the team to create and maintain clinic procedures and protocols, update them as required, and ensure adherence to procedures.

The individual must maintain a driver’s license and a car in good working order with adequate insurance and must also immediately report any citations for moving violations as well as suspension of driver’s license. This position requires traveling up to two hours as a team in a state or rented vehicle. A valid driver’s license is required to drive vehicles to assigned clinics.

This position obtains accurate data on height and weight measurements on participants. Performs hematocrit/hemoglobin testing and records results electronically. Cleans equipment and area where blood work is done, and maintains universal precautions when completing HST duties. Staff will follow established guidelines and standards for safety and handling equipment, biological specimens, and waste products to prevent exposure to blood borne pathogens.
