- Observe patients continuously at the bedside or through the virtual monitoring system to promote and protect patient safety
- Identify safety risks and intervene when there is a potential or actual threat to patient safety
- Document observations and interventions accurately and promptly
- Communicate patient safety information, changes in status, and urgent concerns to nursing and healthcare staff
- Establish a trusting, professional relationship with patients while remaining professionally detached
- Receive and provide shift handoff communication
- Maintain a safe patient environment and survey surroundings for safety hazards
- Recognize behavioral changes and elevate concerns, including suicidal or homicidal gestures or threats
- Participate as a member of the nursing team and assist with ambulation, repositioning, linen changes, hygiene, toileting, and meal-tray setup as directed
- Maintain the Virtual Monitoring Unit and equipment, and report equipment issues
- Attend staff meetings, complete competency assessments, and adapt scheduling to department staffing needs
- High School Diploma or GED
- AHA BLS certification required within 30 days of hire
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Adaptability to changing situations and work assignments
- Demonstrated ability to monitor a patient at the bedside
- Ability to accept direction from professional nursing staff and assist with patient care
- Physical ability to push/pull patients
- Ongoing competency to monitor patients remotely from the Virtual Monitoring Unit
- Ability to accurately document observations and interventions using computer, handwritten, or verbal communication
- Ability to remain alert, exercise good judgment, and stay patient-focused
- Ability to read, write, reason, talk, and perform keyboarding
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and carry up to 20 lbs
- Ability to frequently kneel, stoop, bend, stand, walk, push, and pull
- Preferred: one year of relevant clinical experience in a healthcare setting
- Flexibility in scheduling to meet department staffing needs
- Completion of unit-specific and annual competency assessments within required timelines
Demonstrates the ability to monitor patients effectively, both at the bedside and remotely, while ensuring patient safety and maintaining accurate documentation. Exhibits strong interpersonal communication skills and adaptability in a dynamic healthcare environment.
