Distinguishing Characteristics of Work

This position is a senior-level professional and administrative role responsible for overseeing the Information Technology Unit for the State Attorney's Office. The role involves a high degree of independent judgment and task-oriented responsibilities related to the planning, staffing, management, and maintenance of information systems that support data processing and office automation for both legal and administrative functions.

The IT Director must possess comprehensive knowledge of: supervisory and management principles; budget development and fiscal control processes; project management, cost estimation, and feasibility analysis techniques; and the concepts and theories underlying data processing. In addition, the role requires expertise in computer operating systems, system procedures, programming practices, and system design principles.

Key responsibilities of the IT Director include: supervising and developing staff; setting priorities and managing workloads; applying logical and analytical problem-solving skills; and responding to operational needs outside of standard business hours when required. The IT Director evaluates and resolves user issues, prepares a variety of reports, including technical and data-processing reports, and leads feasibility, cost analysis, and budget assessments. The position also involves short- and long-term strategic planning, policy and procedure development, and the provision of technical guidance in areas such as systems analysis, databases, and hardware.

Proficiency in Microsoft SQL is required.

The IT Director plans, organizes, and directs IT program activities; communicates complex technical information clearly in both written and verbal form; establishes and maintains effective working relationships; and ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Essential Job Duties of Information Technology Director

The Information Technology Director serves the following functions in the State Attorney's Office:
  • Serve as a liaison with Interacting Criminal Justice Information Systems Data Processing Departments.
  • Diagnose and recommend solutions to problems concerning ongoing projects.
  • Develop new data processing reports and/or modification of existing reports to better serve the needs of the State Attorney.
  • Write Microsoft queries for STAC system.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL.
  • Act as a representative on any board or committee on a local or state level concerning program development that affects this office.
  • Translate manual systems of operation into equivalent automated systems, and have knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of electronic data processing.
  • Compile available data from existing electronic data processing and manual criminal justice systems for presentation, system analysis, and system modification.
  • Develop a strategic plan that outlines the direction of information technology pertaining to the office and other criminal justice information systems.
  • Supervise and/or train staff as needed.
  • Manage the implementation of automation projects.
  • Manage and direct the overall operations of a data center, including back-ups and disaster recovery plans and implementation.
  • Develop contingency and capacity planning strategies.
  • Assess software and hardware training needs, and develop conduct, and coordinate training programs and activities for agency staff.
  • Fingerprint employees, vendors, and volunteers to run background histories using local, state, and federal data bases.
  • Coordinate and mange security training and ensure agency compliance with State and Federal laws pertaining to audits as required.
  • Responsible for data input and statistical reports as needed by the State Attorney and designees. Collect and compile statistical program information.
  • Management and maintenance of various aspects of case management system/database.
  • Attend regional work group meetings and conferences to stay current on FDLE requirements, changes, and new procedures.
  • Maintain management control agreements and IT memorandum of understanding to ensure compliance.
  • Ability to work outside of standard business hours to complete upgrades and other necessary system maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Training and Experience:

Six years of training, education, or experience in a computer field is required.

Starting Salary: $80,000 to $110,000 starting salary based on education and experience.
