Data Scientist

IFAS Statistical and Data Analytics Consulting Unit is hiring a Data Scientist I. The role involves providing statistical consulting, guiding experimental designs, performing data analysis, and visualizing results for applied research in agriculture, natural resources, and life sciences. The position requires programming in R and/or Python to support reproducible analyses while clearly communicating statistical concepts to non-statistical audiences.

• Provide statistical consulting on research projects including study design, data organization, statistical modeling, and interpretation of results.
• Use statistical software primarily R and/or Python; also utilize SAS, JMP, Stata, or SPSS as needed.
• Assist researchers with publication-ready tables, figures, statistical summaries, and grant materials.
• Develop and maintain reproducible analysis workflows, training materials, and online resources supporting statistical consulting.
• Deliver applied statistics training, workshops, and tutorials for faculty, staff, and students.
• Require a Bachelor s degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field plus two years of experience or a Master s degree in a related field.
• Strong applied statistical skills preferred, including experience with experimental design, linear and generalized linear models, mixed models, and multivariate analysis.
• Ability to communicate complex statistical concepts effectively to researchers without statistical backgrounds.
• Experience with advanced statistical methods and working with agricultural or life-science related research data is highly valued.
• Expected salary is approximately $61,000 annually.
