Job Description

Manage all aspects of the Florida Department of Risk Management (DRM) insurance programs pertaining to the University of Florida. Proactively oversee property claims with the State of Florida, FDEM, and FEMA to ensure maximum recovery and timely reimbursements.

Plan, develop, and implement strategies, policies, and procedures to meet departmental goals. Serve as the primary point of contact and liaison with internal and external stakeholders regarding risk management, insurance, policy management, contracts, and claims.

Collaborate with the State of Florida adjusters and attorneys to develop strategy and action plans for litigation matters, managing the process to ensure appropriate, timely, and cost‑effective resolutions.

Evaluate potential risks and exposures to the University and advise leadership on appropriate mitigation and management strategies. Maintain accurate and current UF property statements of value.

Assist departments in obtaining insurance coverage outside of Florida DRM programs, when requested, and provide guidance on contractual risk transfer strategies with third‑party vendors, high‑risk activities, camps, builders risk, and UF events. Review and make recommendations regarding certificates of insurance (COIs), indemnification provisions, and other components of the University’s insurance portfolio strategy.

Provide risk and insurance outreach and training by converting claims analytics into prevention initiatives and developing/delivering risk and insurance training and guidance across UF.

Operate UF/state vehicle to UF satellite locations to administer risk management duties and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Valid Florida driver license is required.

Criminal background check required.

Normal Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 08:00 AM to 05:00 PM 40 hours per week.

Occasional travel to offsite meetings.

This position is designated as an Essential Employee for the University, as the employee’s response immediately following an emergency event in which the continuation of critical and essential services is needed.

Compensation

$65,000.00 to $70,297.50 Annually

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and five (5) years of experience in insurance and risk management; OR a Master's degree in risk management and three (3) years of related experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education & Training
  • Master’s degree in Risk Management or similar field
  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation
  • Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designation
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation
  • 2-20 All Lines Agency License
Experience
  • Two (5) to four (7) years of related experience
Knowledge
  • Knowledgeable of insurance fundamentals, including risk assessment and policy structures for various commercial lines (e.g., property, liability and Inland Marine).
  • Knowledge of the State of Florida Fund and DRM insurance policies
