Overview

MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT ncis Catholic Academy - Gainesville. FLSA:
Full-Time, Non-Exempt.

Reports to:

Principal. General

Summary:

Maintains the buildings and properties of the school, ensuring that all facilities and grounds are clean, neat, and appealing; maintains plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems in good working order. This position is full-time.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Maintains the property in a clean and orderly manner, including: vacuuming, dusting, mopping floors; cleaning bathrooms and washing windows; replacing light bulbs; checking roofs, gutters, and downspouts for obstructions; keeping janitorial closets and cupboards clean and orderly; collecting and disposing of trash; removing fallen tree limbs and palm fronds.
  • Responds to work orders in a timely manner.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains regular maintenance and service work to plumbing, electrical systems, mechanical furnaces/boilers, and air conditioners within the position’s skill level; makes recommendations for outsourcing as needed while practicing good stewardship of school funds.
  • Maintains all aspects of school grounds and buildings, including mowing, trimming, pesticide/herbicide applications if necessary, pruning, planter bed maintenance, painting, weeding, trash pickup, and custodial duties.
  • Assists with inventory and provides regular scheduled maintenance and repair of equipment and tools.
  • Conducts regular inspections of property and building concerns to prevent costly repairs.
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures; takes safety precautions for self and others during repairs or maintenance.
  • Provides setup, teardown, and cleanup for school meetings and functions in the school and parish center.
  • Maintains a professional appearance appropriate to the school environment (neatly trimmed hair/beards, serviceable work shirts and trousers).
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work; proactive, takes initiative, and follows through.
  • High attention to maintenance quality and detail.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Good communication skills; ability to work in a team.
  • Interpersonal skills including tact, courtesy, and diplomacy.
  • Valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment.
  • Good judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job.
  • Must pass the required background check prior to employment and every five years.
  • High school diploma or GED; prior maintenance experience is a plus.
Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business materials; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to present information and respond to questions from groups.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to perform basic arithmetic; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions or diagrams.

The employee must routinely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
