Job Title
This is responsible work supervising and coordinating the activities of employee work crews, within assigned Operational Unit, engaged in building, maintaining and repairing roadways, bridges, parks, and open spaces for the Alachua County Department of Public Works.
Minimum QualificationsGraduation from high school or equivalent and two years' experience in parks, building, grounds, or road and bridge maintenance/construction or any equivalent combination of related training and experience. Applicants within six months of meeting the minimum education/experience requirement may be considered for trainee status. A Valid Florida Driver License is required and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets the requirements of Alachua County policy #6-7;
Motor Vehicle Records will be reviewed prior to employment. If, in the past 24-month period, the applicants Motor Vehicle Record has more than three (3) moving traffic infractions or three (3) or more at fault motor vehicle accidents (or combination of both and /or a conviction/pending charge for driving under the influence) or is in violation of any standard mandated by Federal or State Law or Regulation, the minimum qualifications are not met for the position.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen & physical examination and successful completion of all applicable background checks pre-hire and ongoing are required.
This is responsible work supervising and coordinating the activities of employee work crews, within assigned Operational Unit, engaged in building, maintaining and repairing roadways, bridges, parks, and open spaces for the Alachua County Department of Public Works. An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for data proofing and input into the asset and work management system and coordinating the work force and the scheduling of construction equipment used in road and park construction and maintenance.
Work is performed under the direction of a higher level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS This is an emergency essential classification. Upon declaration of a disaster and/or emergency, all employees in this classification are required to work. Exudes a positive customer service focus. Advocates building organizational culture through aligning decisions with the County's core values. Proofs and inputs data into the asset and work management system in order to effectively manage the unit's operational needs.
Assists with ensuring that all data within the asset and work management system is maintained and work orders updated in order to track maintenance work orders from complaint to completion. Supervises and coordinates the activities of employee work crews including determining work procedures and schedules; issuing instructions and assigning duties; reviewing work; recommending personnel actions;
Assists in conducting performance reviews; and conducting departmental training and orientation. Supervises one of the Units within the Operations Division, duties include but are not limited to mowing, grading, tree trimming, stormwater, concrete, right of way maintenance, asphalt, or traffic maintenance. Investigates and resolves citizens' complaints regarding service request. Generates work orders based on the service request and assigns to one of the crews within the Unit.
Ensures the works orders are completed and closed out. Responsible for safety compliance and ensures work zones comply with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and county standards. Ensures incident reports for the Unit are completed as soon as possible. Reviews and verifies reports regarding type of work performed by crews, materials used and sick/vacation records. Responsible for crew adhering to applicable quality and safety standards.
Assists higher level supervisors with the scheduling of employees and equipment/supplies to maximize cost savings and efficiency. Provide or schedules hands-on training to employees in the proper use and operation of all equipment utilized under supervision of incumbent. Drives and operates Public Works vehicles and equipment as needed. Performs the duties listed, as well as those assigned, with professionalism and a sense of urgency.
