Position: Cultivation Lead (Flower)

Job Summary

The Cultivation Lead supervises and assists the Cultivation team in performing all tasks necessary to grow various strains of quality cannabis. Responsibilities include feeding, defoliation, super cropping, flushing, foliar and preventative sprays, waste disposal, and inventory management for a large commercial facility. The role works closely with the Cultivation Technicians, Cultivation Manager, and Cultivation Director on all aspects of cultivation.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Opens and closes designated grow zones according to Ayr Wellness standard operating procedures.
  • Checks for plant loss or stress, malfunctioning equipment, and any incomplete tasks from the prior day.
  • Ensures all items on the Opening and Closing checklist are completed successfully and delegates tasks to other cultivators as necessary.
  • Performs daily inspections of plants for overall health, pests, disease, or sex changes.
  • Assesses plant health and gives individual plants tailored attention based on need.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
  • Familiarizes with all cultivation equipment and tools, including cleaning procedures.
  • Sets up the team for success by ensuring every member has the supplies and equipment needed for an activity.
  • Assists Cultivation Manager with rotating strains through the garden to ensure variety and quantity for dispensary locations.
  • Monitors environmental controls to maintain optimal range for temperature, humidity, vapor pressure deficit, CO₂ ppm, water temperature, dissolved oxygen ppm, light intensity, etc.
  • Tracks plants from birth to harvest, ensuring proper and accurate documentation for all activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must meet age requirements outlined by state cannabis agencies.
  • Able to pass all background checks/fingerprinting required by state cannabis agencies.
  • Able to provide valid badging/credentials required by state cannabis agencies.
  • Two years of experience in general cannabis cultivation or commercial production gardening.
  • Minimum six months of professional experience in agriculture, horticulture, or the cannabis industry.
  • Ability to make decisions when needed.
  • Accurate data‑entry and record‑keeping skills.
  • Thorough understanding of state and local medical and/or recreational cannabis laws as they apply to Ayr Wellness operations.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective time‑management skills and ability to multitask.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, or alternate shifts.
Education

High school diploma/GED required.

Experience

1–3 years’ experience working in a horticulture/agriculture field.

Working Conditions
  • May be exposed to dust, kief, cleaning chemicals, and fumes; system controls reduce but do not eliminate these byproducts.
  • Frequent work in rooms with bright light requiring eye protection.
  • Frequent work in rooms with moderate heat and humidity.
  • Constant exposure to moderate background noise from environmental systems, equipment, and fans.
Physical Requirements
  • Sitting, standing, and walking motion and movement required throughout the shift.
  • Constant movement of hands, fingers, and limbs; requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Must be able to position self throughout tasks.
  • Frequently climbs or descends a ladder to inspect/maintain plants.
  • Occasionally operates power hand tools and other cultivation machinery.
  • Must inspect and detect quality deviations and defects.
  • Occasional lifting, positioning, or moving items up to 50 pounds.
