Position Overview
Location:
Milliken Chemical Plant in Gainesville, FL. Reports to a Chemical Supervisor. This Chemical Operator role is integral in the chemical manufacturing processes, rotating on a 12‑hour shift (first–third) with required safety and chemical handling skills. Entry‑level operators will learn chemical processing and obtain certifications to progress in pay.
- Familiarize with SOPs and departmental manuals and perform assigned chemical operator duties.
- Develop competency in setting up, operating, and cleaning chemical process equipment and operating vessels in the Pay and Progression path.
- Understand required paperwork flow, product flow and terminology for each production assignment.
- Disassemble, clean, and reassemble process filters as directed by supervisors.
- Maintain accurate record keeping in SAP, Excel and the Label‑printing system.
- Keep assigned workstation neat and orderly with minimal supervision.
- Perform sampling, weighing and labeling procedures with proper container identification.
- Operate heating and cooling systems including City water tower, water glycol cooling, steam boiler, and hot oil heating.
- Read and follow written procedures in Chemical Process Documents.
- Complete batch sheets without error.
- Work efficiently under minimum supervision to meet production goals and support a safe, clean environment.
- Handle drums safely while moving 55‑gallon drums on/off pallets.
- Handle cylinders safely during transfers.
- Transport and load 25 kg bags of chemicals into equipment manually.
- Participate in Process Review Committee meetings as an operator process expert.
- Work cooperatively with others, listen to supervisors, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Comply with Milliken Quality Policy.
- High School Diploma.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to climb multiple steps, lift 50 pounds regularly, pass medical clearance, and wear a full‑face respirator.
- Computer experience with Windows‑based software.
- High level of computer skills.
- Prior experience in a chemical or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to multi‑task.
- Ability to work both as a team member and independently.
- Self‑direction and adaptability to changing priorities.
