Responsibilities- Assist the Sheet Metal Mechanic in fabricating assemblies and systems in the workshop according to work provided by the Shop foreman using hand tools, portable power tools, and other specialized equipment.
- Assist in inspecting assemblies and installation work for conformance with plans, specifications, and trade standards using the naked eye and measuring instruments such as measuring tape, rule, plumb bob or level.
- Assist the Sheet Metal Shop Mechanic with routine fabrication under direct oversight and on-site assistance.
- Assist with operation of fabrication equipment such as coil line, plasma table, brakes, drive machines, and other fabrication equipment.
- Take inventory of stocked materials and consumables such as sheet metal, conduits, connectors, and damper assemblies.
- Cut materials for fabrication using a chop saw and tape measure.
- Help set up and operate soldering and welding equipment, fabricating machines.
- Fabricate metal duct and accessories.
- Cut and fabricate fiberglass duct and fittings.
- Measure, size, cut and apply duct insulation.
- Accept and perform other work as assigned.
- One to three months of commercial sheet metal shop experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Knowledge of the proper use of safety equipment.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Able to climb and balance on ladders, stand or sit for long periods, not have a fear of heights, among others.
- Valid Florida driver's license.
