The School of Theatre + Dance in the College of the Arts seeks a student assistant in the role of Publicity & Social Media Assistant to provide support for the School's marketing, communications, audience engagement, and front-of-house operations under the supervision of the Publicist. This position works closely with faculty, staff, and production teams to promote School of Theatre + Dance productions and events.
The position assists with the creation of social media content, photography and videography, graphic design, promotional campaigns, and audience outreach. Whenever possible, this position will also assist with special marketing initiatives and community engagement efforts for school productions, academic programs, and SoTD special events.
The position may also serve as a backup House Manager during School of Theatre + Dance performances and special events, assisting with patron services, audience seating, and other front-of-house operations.
A successful candidate will have Federal Work Study (FWS) eligibility; demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills; possess an interest in marketing, communications, theatre, dance, or arts administration; and work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Capture photography and video content at rehearsals, performances, events, and student activities.
- Design graphics and promotional materials using Canva or similar software.
- Draft social media captions, event descriptions, and other marketing copy.
- Assist with maintaining content calendars and audience engagement efforts.
- Create and schedule content for School of Theatre + Dance social media accounts, including Instagram.
- Support promotional campaigns for productions, concerts, guest artists, and special events.
- Assist with distributing marketing materials across campus and the Gainesville community.
- Serve as a backup House Manager for select performances and events.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Federal Work Study award required [must provide valid Award Summary Page confirming Federal Work Study Award for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027].
- 10 hours available each week.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends during performances and special events.
- Knowledge of Instagram and other social media platforms.
- Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or other design software.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
- Evidence of prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Photography, videography, or content creation experience.
- Interest in theatre, dance, arts administration, marketing, or communications.
