ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides general nursing care to patients. Documents all activities/interventions, patient/family responses, medication prescribed/dispensed, etc. in the medical record.
  • Assists with cardiac & peripheral diagnostic procedures and peripheral interventional procedures as prescribed by a physician.
  • Performs pre-procedural assessment and care, and post-procedural assessment and care.
  • Helps patient transfer to exam table and ensures adequate patient immobilization to perform studies.
  • Maintains patient bays for necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness. Prepares list of medical supplies needed. Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination and testing of patients.
  • Maintains/reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information. Posts tests and examination results.
  • Instructs patients about the proper physiological requirements for procedure and obtains informed consent.
  • Performs pre‑procedural heart/lung evaluation.
  • May administer moderate sedation under the direct physician supervision.
  • Administers intra‑procedural medications as ordered by the physician.
  • Assists in performing life‑saving techniques (CPR, first aid) to the patient if necessary.
  • Practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination.
  • Handles blood and body fluids using appropriate precautions.
  • Facilitates a safe patient culture.
  • Performs follow‑up calls to patients.
  • Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines, and confidentiality policies.
  • Starts IVs, draws lab work, performs ISTAT testing as needed.
  • Maintains crash cart.
  • Maintains medication stock.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to the job position.

EDUCATION
  • RN degree
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of one year pre/post procedure or pre/post op environment.
REQUIREMENTS
  • State RN license (current and ongoing, clear and unrestricted)
  • Current and ongoing BLS and ACLS certification.
KNOWLEDGE
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, regulations and practices to give and evaluate patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge of basic nursing principles and protocols.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of medical chart reporting/records.
SKILLS
  • Skills in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care.
  • Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
  • Skill in preparing/maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence.
  • Skill in appropriate use of universal precautions, safe workplace and confidentiality methods.
  • Skill in health information management by appropriately charting patient data.

ENVIRONMENTAL / WORKING CONDITIONS

Varied settings including exam rooms, office, laboratory and sometimes works in close quarters. Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, ionizing radiation and other conditions common to radiology setting.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye‑hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighting up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Must be able to use varied office equipment including phone, writing instruments, PC, fax and medical equipment including stethoscope, EKG machine, scales, blood pressure cuff.
