The agency for persons with disabilities (apd) works in partnership with local communities to support people with developmental disabilities in living, learning, and working in their communities. Apd provides critical services and support for customers with developmental disabilities to reach their full potential. The agency serves people with spina bifida, autism, down syndrome, children ages 3-5 at high risk of developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy, prader-willi syndrome, phelan-mcdermid syndrome, and intellectual disabilities.

Specific duties and responsibilities
This is work providing practical nursing services to developmentally disabled individuals k is performed under the direction and general supervision of a registered nurse, and is reviewed for compliance, standards and procedures. Works in conjunction with the registered nurse to assure continuity of care and adherence to icf/idd standards.
Prepares, administers and documents medications and treatments as per nursing policy and procedure. Maintains documentation in accordance with established policies and procedures. Observes, records and reports physical and behavioral responses to medication and treatment. Provides emergency nursing service within the scope of nursing practice. Assists the registered nurse and/or licensed independent practitioner in clinics, diagnostic tests and physical examinations.
Conduct an initial assessment and provide appropriate treatment as soon as possible after being notified or becoming aware of an injury or possible injury. Complete section ii of the ddc incident report form in accordance with im process.
Attend interdisciplinary team meetings, special clinics and nursing committees as assigned.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Position requirements
* must possess and maintain cpr healthcare provider certification.
* must possess and maintain a current practical nurse license.
* must be willing to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency.
* must be willing to work beyond the normal work schedule to maintain minimum coverage levels and meet the needs of the agency.
* must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
This position may be required to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency per apd op 2-0035.
This position is critical to the safety and supervision of residents and may require the incumbent to work beyond their normal work schedule to maintain minimum coverage levels in the facility.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of:
* knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques.
* knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
* knowledge of microsoft word and outlook.
Skilled in:
* demonstrates skills in the use of emergency equipment within the scope of training.
* demonstrates skills in the use of ms office suite software including word and outlook.
* demonstrates skills in communicating effectively orally and in writing
Ability to:
* ability to provide emergency nursing care to include but not limited to basic life support, emergency care for choking (abdominal thrust), rescue breathing and use emergency equipment.
