Gainesville City Schools School Nurse

Work Calendar: 183 – 7 Hour Days (30 Minutes Lunch)
Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Principal and the Lead Nurse
Essential Functions:
- Oversees activities of the school clinic.
- Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
- Administer first aid to student and staff, within the scope of nursing practice, as needed for injuries and illness.
- Evaluate students with illnesses/health conditions to determine if they can stay at school or need to leave school, and communicates with the parent when necessary.
- Monitor, coordinate, administer, and document daily scheduled medication in accordance with the medication procedures at school.
- Work with parents, local physicians and staff in meeting the individual medical needs of students.
- Provide or assist in medical care for those students with chronic health conditions during school hours.
- Report health needs and concerns to school administration and promote good health practices within the entire school.
- Provide in-services to staff for special procedures/health related concerns.
- Assist School Staff with immunization records, and other required stated mandated health forms/screenings.
- Perform vision and hearing screenings (training provided).
- Maintains clinic supply inventory.
- Maintain monthly checks of school Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
- Maintain confidentially
- Work well with administration, teachers and staff, and possess effective communication skills-written and verbal.
- Must be able to use computer technology.
- Maintain communication with professional organizations to related field.
- Promotes wellness and disease prevention.
- Serve as a medical education resource for students, staff, and parents.
- Follows guidelines and school policies of Gainesville City Schools Systems, and adheres to scope of practice under Georgia Nurse Practice Act.
- Performs other clinic duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- LPN OR RN
- Basic Literacy Skills
Physical Demands:
- Routine physical activities associated with typical office setting.
- Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling and repetitive fine motor activities.
- Vision, hearing and verbal communications are essential functions of this position.
