Position: SENIOR LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE-F/C OPS - 60957231

Overview

North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216‑bed forensic mental health rehabilitation facility located on 639 acres in northeast Gainesville, Florida. This position serves as a Senior Licensed Practical Nurse – F/C – OPS within the Nursing Unit, working 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities
  • This position requires lifting, pulling, and squatting and must adhere to Total Quality Management principles. The incumbent spends a minimum of 75% of the work time performing duties outlined in the official position description.
  • Provides practical nursing services to residents assigned under the direction of a Senior Physician, working with multidisciplinary staff in a psychiatric/medical setting.
  • Administers oral and injectable medication and controlled medications following Unit Dose Policy/Procedure/Guidelines (OP 150‑35) and within the scope of practice. Completes required paperwork within specified time frames.
  • Participates in the Hospital Infection Control process/program, reporting potential infections to the Registered Nurse or Physician and documenting in required forms.
  • Prepares paperwork, administers medications, and prepares for consults to EKG, EEG, X‑ray, clinics, and outside appointments.
  • Assists physicians/APRN/PA during sick call, physical examinations, and documentation, routing referrals and labs as required.
  • Coordinates residents’ appointments with ward staff, ensuring medications are administered and paperwork provided before residents leave.
  • Provides emergency medical/psychiatric treatment within scope of practice and notifies the Registered Nurse/Physician/APRN/PA for assistance promptly.
  • Inputs lab orders as assigned or per physician/APRN/PA orders.
  • Reports any problems with medical or nursing equipment to the nurse for follow‑up.
  • Complies with resident rights and advocacy issues; follows unit, hospital, and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Assists with admission and transfer of residents to and from other units or outside sources, supporting the Registered Nurse with admission workup and care.
  • Prints Medication Profiles from HCS to attach to discharge forms.
  • Assesses resident complaints, determines action, then notifies the doctor when necessary, and records verbal and written orders from the physician.
  • Completes incident reports.
  • Completes progress notes on resident care in accordance with NFETC Operating Procedures/Guidelines, providing documentation per standards.
  • Observes for medication side effects or adverse effects and reports to the registered nurse/physician/APRN/PA for assessment and follow‑up as needed.
  • Schedules, holds, and documents medication education groups or 1:1 sessions to enhance residents’ knowledge and compliance with medication/treatment regimens.
  • Maintains, cleans, and inventories medical/nursing equipment and supplies in assigned areas, ordering and restocking as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as required to meet departmental and resident quality care needs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensed Practical Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing under Florida Administrative Code 210‑8.22 or 8.27 and a minimum of two years of professional nursing experience.
