Northeast Georgia Health System is rooted in a foundation of improving the health of our communities. The Mother‑Baby Unit is a 30‑bed postpartum unit that provides comprehensive postpartum and newborn care to each mother, infant and family within the framework of Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s mission statement.

• Low to moderate risk postpartum patients, adolescents through middle age, are transferred to the Mother‑Baby Unit approximately 120 minutes after delivery.
• Patients with well newborns as well as those requiring the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit are admitted.
• Physiologic needs of every postpartum patient are addressed including pain control, management of obstetrical complications, breastfeeding complications, or compromise in major organ systems.
• Physiologic needs of each newborn are addressed including pain control, feeding problems, or organ system compromise.
• Psychological, spiritual and knowledge deficits of each postpartum patient/family are assessed and addressed.

• Capable clinician with previous specialty experience preferred; focuses on expanding knowledge and skills.
• Consistently provides effective direct care as part of an interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients.
• Provides and seeks feedback for improved clinical practice.
• Assumes a beginning clinical bedside leadership role and seeks mentoring.
• Active member of VOICE, professional nursing shared governance, providing feedback at meetings.
• Participates on VOICE councils, Nursing Quality Teams, Unit Council, and helps improve nursing‑sensitive indicators, RN satisfaction, employee engagement, culture of safety and patient experience data.
• Teams with other care members to recruit and retain an excellent nursing staff.
• For new graduate RNs: focuses on developing knowledge and skills, showing growth in ability to care for increasingly complex patients.
• Provides direct and safe patient care based on the nursing process; coordinates care for assigned patients during a shift to promote clinical outcomes.
• Requires consultation with more experienced clinicians and accepts constructive feedback.

• Licensure:
  Licensed to practice as an RN in Georgia.
• Education:
  
  Associate’s degree in nursing.
• Experience:
  
  One year of experience as a professional RN; new graduate RNs or those with less than one year of experience will be referred to the RN Residency Program.

• National certification in a clinical specialty.
• Bachelor of Nursing degree.
• One year experience in Long Term Care.

• Understand and comply with all DNV standards and policies.
• Evaluate patient response to interventions and adjust care plans accordingly.
• Consistently coordinate interdisciplinary care and utilize resources to reduce waste.
• Participate in process improvement (PI) processes and monitor work environment for DNV compliance.
• Coordinate discharge planning and contribute to a culture of safety.
