Minimum Requirements:
Degree from an accredited veterinary technology program; or an associate's degree and four years of experience as a veterinary technician, including work with research animals.
- Oversee the management and training of assigned veterinary care technicians in coordination with the Veterinary Technician Manager (VTM).
- Conduct interviews and provide input for hiring applicants.
- Ensure area schedules are maintained, purchase equipment and supplies, and ensure services are billed appropriately and timely.
- Directly supervise assigned staff and perform periodic performance evaluations with the VTM.
- Assist in implementing operating policies and procedures approved by clinical veterinarians and/or the Clinical Team.
- Develop and implement support training for new hires and existing staff; keep up to date on SOPs in Policy Manager.
- Approve time entries, leave, overtime, and weekend/holiday change requests in a timely manner.
- Provide support for ongoing and new projects, including protocol development, estimate building, and principal investigator/research lab communications.
- Develop and implement procedures for management of ACS Surgical Services' operating rooms, offices, treatment spaces, rodent surgical areas, clinical inventory and equipment, and sterile supply.
- Coordinate and provide veterinary care to laboratory animals as prescribed by clinical veterinarians, including injections, medications, sutures, dressing wounds, and other routine procedures.
- Assign veterinary care technician staff as needed to maintain health‑monitoring schedules and collect diagnostic samples.
- Provide technical support in other clinical areas of ACS as needed, including weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule.
- Assist research partners, clinical veterinarians, and other veterinary care staff with veterinary care and training needs.
$30.00/hour
Required QualificationsDegree from an accredited veterinary technology program; or an associate's degree and four years of experience as a veterinary technician, including work with research animals.
Preferred Qualifications- Completion of an accredited veterinary technology program and three years of experience as a veterinary technician working in a research setting; or coursework in a related field with appropriate work experience and three years of experience as a veterinary technician working in a research setting.
- Completion of an associate's degree or Bachelor's degree.
- Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) certification – strongly preferred.
- Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) or higher by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science – strongly preferred; required within 12 months of hire unless otherwise specified by supervisor.
- Management experience in a veterinary setting – very strongly preferred; one year as VT2 or equivalent.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to motivate staff.
- Strong customer service skills to provide a fulfilling experience with research partners, staff, and peers.
