Job Summary
GAF is searching for a Quality Engineer who will assist with creating and maintaining the quality culture at the plant level. The role includes managing plant calibration, COA, raw material and finished goods records, working with process experts to reduce variation, and supporting operational and financial business objectives.
Essential Duties- Collaborate with Operations and Process Engineering to optimize finished goods performance through formulation and process changes.
- Manage quality data and testing frequency to understand, improve, and define quality control.
- Perform routine MSA (Measurement System Analysis) for the plant and take action based on testing results.
- Lead the execution of Quality Improvement projects using standard PI tools such as MVT/DOE and Kepner‑Tregoe PSDM.
- Coordinate the execution of approved capital improvements, managing timelines, budget and resources.
- Update and review plant‑specific SOPs and the GAF ISO Quality manual.
- Retrain on quality documentation (SFP, PCD, TFP, SOP, Calibration) and train production personnel on Statistical Quality Control (SQC).
- Lead the application and interpretation of SQC charting and collaborate with process engineers on execution.
- Manage calibration, audit, finished goods, COA records, and raw material batch tracking.
- Conduct audits with certifying partners and internally; create action plans based on audit results.
- Support product improvement and new product development efforts.
- Define and develop testing protocols for finished product and raw material performance.
- Conduct Vendor CAPA analysis on raw materials, collaborate with procurement, supply chain, and suppliers to resolve issues.
- Communicate findings to the plant and conduct internal CAPAs with support from the process engineer.
- Perform warehouse audits and standardize best practices among quality departments.
- Manage the plant’s red‑tag system and monitor claims, reporting monthly metrics.
- Conduct residential jobsite visits as required to assess potential product performance issues.
- Perform all other duties assigned by Supervisor/Management.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/STEM (BA/BS).
- 5+ years of experience in a Quality/Mfg role (equivalent).
- 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 3+ years in a quality role.
- Knowledge of engineering fundamentals, root‑cause analysis, statistical process control, lean/agile approaches, and structured problem solving.
- Intermediate skills in process hazard analysis and process safety management.
- Ability to translate technical data into a suitable format and language for personnel.
- Demonstrated focus on continuous improvement.
- Strong computer data entry, typing, and proofreading skills.
Stationary position, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motions. Requires walking and standing as necessary. No special conditions.
Travel RequirementsApproximately 20% travel required.
CompensationBase salary range: $76,000 – $104,500.
