Job Summary

GAF is seeking a Quality Engineer to build and sustain a quality culture at the plant level. The role manages plant calibration, COA, raw material and finished goods records, and collaborates with process experts to reduce variation while supporting operational and financial objectives.

Essential Duties
  • Collaborate with Operations and process engineering to optimize finished‑good performance through formulation and process changes.
  • Manage quality data and testing frequency to understand, improve, and define quality control through the process and products.
  • Perform routine measurement system analysis (MSA) for the plant and take action based on testing results.
  • Lead Quality Improvement projects using PI tools such as MVT/DOE and Kepner Tregoe PSDM; execute approved capital improvements, coordinating timelines, budgets, and resources.
  • Update and review plant‑specific SOPs and the GAF ISO Quality manual.
  • Retrain personnel on quality documentation (SFP, PCD, TFP, SOP, and calibration) per business‑unit requirements.
  • Train production staff on Statistical Quality Control (SQC) related to finished‑good and raw‑material variation.
  • Lead the application and interpretation of SQC charting and collaborate on execution with process engineers.
  • Manage calibration, audit, finished‑goods, COA records, and raw‑material batch tracking.
  • Conduct audits with certifying partners and internally; create action plans to improve plant quality.
  • Support product improvement and new‑product‑development efforts; define and develop testing protocols for product and raw‑material performance.
  • Conduct vendor CAPA analysis on raw materials; collaborate with procurement, supply chain, and suppliers to resolve issues.
  • Communicate findings to the plant; conduct internal CAPAs with process engineer support.
  • Perform warehouse audits periodically.
  • Work closely with QA and other quality engineers to standardize best practices among plant quality departments.
  • Manage the plant’s red‑tag system and monitor claims, reporting monthly metrics.
  • Perform residential job‑site visits when required regarding potential product‑performance issues.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by Supervisor/Management.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) in Engineering or STEM.
  • 5+ years of experience in a Quality/Manufacturing role.
  • 3+ years in a manufacturing environment and 3+ years in a quality role.
  • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals, root‑cause analysis, statistical process control, lean/agile approaches, and structured problem solving.
  • Ability to translate technical data into accessible formats.
  • Intermediate skills in process hazard analysis and process safety management.
  • Demonstrated focus on continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in computer data entry, typing, and proofreading.
Physical Demands

Stationary work, occasional lifting, reaching, handling, and communication are required. The role may involve traveling up to 20% of the time.
